A four-tiered sculling program for adults with some prior rowing experience. Direct coach support 3-4 evenings per week, progressing from quads to single sculls.
Adult Learn to Scull 2026
SCRC is again offering an Adult Learn to Scull program. Some prior rowing experience is required. Participants get on-water sculling with direct support from a dedicated coach. Four tiers, three to four evenings per week (weather and water permitting), progressing from quads (4X) to single sculls (1X) by season’s end.
Beginner through Pre-Masters - take the level that fits today, or move through them across the season.
Direct coach support during evening sessions plus Saturday mornings, weather and conditions permitting.
Level 4 (Pre-Masters) is the natural step toward joining the SCRC Masters program.
Level 1 — Beginner
3 weeks
Basic introduction to equipment, set up, sculling techniques, and rowing drills in larger 4X boats and possibly 2X. The starting point for new scullers.
Level 2 — Intermediate
3 weeks
Boat basics, balance, power application, and navigation. Progressively moves to smaller boats with the goal of ending in singles (1X).
Level 3 — Advanced sculling
3 weeks
Enhancement of sculling skills with a focus on small boats, while still rowing larger boats when required.
Level 4 — Pre-Masters
Two sessions
Ready for Masters but not quite ready to take the step? Self-guided with coaching. Runs in two sessions, one before and one after Henley.
A one-time RCA + Row Ontario fee of $76.50 is added to your first registration of the calendar year. Once paid, you’re covered for additional levels or other SCRC programs this season. See full 2026 fee chart
Levels 1 and 4 alternate slots across a two-week pattern. Levels 2 and 3 follow the same general pattern within their session windows. All times shown are start times at Henley Island, weather permitting.
